DOUBLE R 2.0 - Bliss, Idaho
The Double R 2.0 is the latest chapter in an ongoing collaboration between Migration Studios and a longtime ranch client — a second significant transformation of the original Double R property, this time reimagined to meet the needs of a growing young family.
The farmhouse had accumulated decades of piecemeal remodels, each one solving an immediate problem while creating new ones. When the impending arrival of a new baby made a comprehensive overhaul unavoidable, Migration Studios approached the project the way the firm approaches any building rooted in Idaho's working landscape — by identifying what the structure already knew and building forward from there rather than erasing and starting over. The central move was a new utility bar inserted into the heart of the existing plan, rationalizing circulation and unlocking an open living concept that connects kitchen and living spaces with the easy generosity a young family deserves.
The exterior reflects Migration Studios' conviction that Idaho's vernacular building traditions are a resource rather than a constraint. Reclaimed Douglas fir siding honors the farmhouse's agricultural roots while integrating naturally with the surrounding ranch environment. The garage is clad in corrugated metal repurposed from the original roof — a material decision that is simultaneously practical, sustainable, and deeply honest about where this building comes from.
This is architect-led design-build at its most personal — Cam Minor, AIA designing and building a home for his own growing family, with every decision made with the same rigor and intention he brings to every project in Migration Studios' portfolio.
