JUNIPER RESIDENCE Sun Valley, Idaho
The Juniper Residence is a 4,500 square foot custom home in Sun Valley, Idaho, sited on a gently sloping north-facing lot positioned to make the most of the commanding views that define life in the Wood River Valley.
Migration Studios approached the Juniper Residence the way the firm approaches every project in Idaho's mountain communities — by looking first at what the land and the region's architectural heritage already know. The clean lines and minimalist massing draw from the elemental vernacular forms found throughout Idaho's historical building traditions, reinterpreted in contemporary materials and proportions that feel entirely at home against a Sun Valley ridgeline. This is not mountain architecture as costume — it is contemporary Idaho design with genuine roots.
The exterior combines wood siding, exposed timber structure, structural steel, and standing seam aluminum — a material palette chosen for its honesty and its ability to perform through Sun Valley's demanding mountain climate. Each material earns its place both aesthetically and technically, aging in ways that strengthen rather than diminish the architecture over time. Large format windows and sliding glass doors dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, flooding living spaces with natural light while framing uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains.
Inside, the Juniper Residence is open and unhurried. The main living area anchors the home with a generous fireplace, comfortable gathering spaces, and a dining area that extends naturally onto a spacious deck. The upper level master suite commands the best views on the property — a private deck looking out across the Sun Valley landscape in every direction.
A custom home architect's answer to one of Idaho's most celebrated mountain communities.
