SHAW MOUNTAIN RESIDENCE - Boise Foothills, Idaho
The Shaw Mountain Residence is a custom home designed for a long, narrow lot in the Boise foothills — a site that presented as many constraints as it did opportunities. Working with the parcel's geometry rather than against it, Migration Studios developed a linear form that maximizes solar exposure, captures views across the Treasure Valley, and respects the existing sight lines of the surrounding neighborhood.
As a custom home architect serving the Boise foothills, Cam Minor, AIA approached this project with two guiding priorities: solar performance and contextual responsibility. The roofline and orientation were calculated to optimize photovoltaic production while the massing was kept deliberately low-profile — a considered response to a neighborhood where view corridors matter to everyone, not just the homeowner.
The result is a home that earns its place on the hillside. Clean lines, a restrained material palette, and carefully positioned glazing allow the landscape to remain the dominant element. Natural light moves through the interior throughout the day, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and reinforcing the home's commitment to sustainable home design in Boise Idaho.
Shaw Mountain is an example of what architect-led design-build makes possible — where the person responsible for every design decision is also accountable for how it gets built.
